Freestanding Home Studios
Extra Space & The Right Fit
Many homeowners wish they had a bit of extra space from time to time. Some people would like a separate home office for their business. Others want space to play music, paint pictures, or take part in other artistic endeavors. Sometimes a home addition is not practical, or the right fit as a homeowner might want some separation from living space. For these purposes, a freestanding home studio is exactly the right solution.
At Modern Homestead, we specialize in designing and building freestanding studios custom-designed to fit your needs. Whether you would like a music studio, an art studio, a home office, or just a “man cave” or “she shed” to pursue your interests, we can build a custom studio tailored to your needs.
Elevated Guest Living
Our freestanding home studios offer the perfect solution for those looking to expand their living space without compromising the comfort or style of their main home. Whether you're envisioning a guest house, a private office, or a creative workspace, we design and build spaces that meet your needs while maintaining a seamless connection to the outdoors.
Recently, we completed a stunning ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) that included a full kitchen, bathroom, and open living area. This project reflects our ability to create versatile, self-contained spaces that offer all the amenities of a traditional home, while remaining compact and efficient. With a focus on craftsmanship, functionality, and customization, we transform your backyard into a welcoming, livable extension of your home.
Create A Cozy Retreat
The picture on the top of this page features the exterior of a freestanding home studio that blends perfectly with the style and design of the main house. It is constructed with energy-saving materials, and in-floor radiant heating, which makes it a cozy retreat in any season. Note how the siding of the studio perfectly complements that of the house in the background of the photo.
The pictures immediately above this section show more details of this studio, which needed to serve as both a home office and a media room for watching movies as a family. A retractable movie screen is concealed in the paneling above the desk. Across the room is a custom-made couch, with plenty of storage built-in below. The entire interior was custom designed in maple, cabinet-grade, plywood to bring a sense of warmth to the space.
Blending indoor and outdoor living
In the pictures that follow, you will see how this space was designed to blend indoor and outdoor living. Modern Homestead designed a flagstone patio that sits outside the French doors. In warm weather, the doors can be opened so that the homeowners could use the studio as an indoor/outdoor entertainment space. On summer nights their children can watch a movie with friends inside the studio, while their parents are outside enjoying refreshments and great conversation.
This type of studio can serve many purposes. Modern Homestead will take the time to understand your goals for the space and design and build the perfect match. Whether it’s a home office, an art studio, a playroom for children, or a “she-shed” or “man cave” to pursue hobbies, a freestanding studio from Modern Homestead can be a great solution.
